Facebook To Offer Slow Internet To Its Employees As Part Of ‘2G Tuesdays’

While high-speed data is becoming more common in India, there's no denying that there are still a large number of regions out there that don't have access to proper internet.

In order to remain mindful of that, Facebook has announced a new company-wide initiative called '2G Tuesdays' which will offer slow internet to the employees for one hour every Tuesday. Facebook claims that this is an optional program for the employees.Facebook Product Manager, Chris Marra said "People are coming online at a fast rate in emerging markets. In most cases, they are doing so on mobile via 2G connections. But on a typical 2G network, it can take several minutes to download a webpage. That doesn't make for a great experience when sharing content with friends and family. To build for a global audience like ours, we know that we need to design features that work seamlessly even on a 2G network."

Having a slower internet connection will allow Facebook employees to understand how they can improve their mobile apps like Messenger when faced with a slow internet connection. This is a great initiative by the Facebook team and could set the precedent for other companies in Silicon Valley.
