Google Announces New IoT Venture Project Soli

It’s no secret that science fiction has influenced current technology. Virtual reality advancements are poised to present a Holodeck-like experience, Siri is disturbingly Hal 9000esque, and even cellphones were inspired by “Star Trek.” Google’s latest gadget, Project Soli, is set to absolutely blow minds.

Resembling Scully’s implant from “The X-Files,” Project Soli is a tiny chip that uses radar to track movements. It’s so precise that Soli can be controlled with a slight finger movement.

This advancement could revolutionize the IoT industry, providing ease of use and added functionality to wearables. IoT devices are further integrating themselves into our lives, and the boundaries between gadgets and people is lessening, to a degree that smartwatches and phones are essentially becoming extensions of our own selves.

According to Google’s official Project Soli page, dev kits will roll out allowing for developers to concoct creative applications for the Soli. While no release date has been mentioned, you can sign up for updates here.
